What is Amazon DSP, and when is it worth it?
Amazon’s programmatic engine: retail data, aimed beyond the search bar.
The Demand-Side Platform buys display and video programmatically using Amazon’s first-party shopper data, and the inventory reaches beyond Amazon itself: Fire TV, Twitch and the open web. Targeting is audience-based rather than keyword-based: in-market category shoppers, viewers of your product pages, lookalikes of your buyers, even audiences who browsed a competitor.
It suits specific jobs: re-engaging shoppers who viewed but did not buy, reaching category demand before it searches, and putting launch messaging in front of precisely defined audiences. Measurement leans on branded-search lift and new-to-brand rather than last-click return.
The realism: DSP carries managed-service minimums or agency access, and it rewards brands that have already saturated search. Buying audiences before you can convert searches is spending from the wrong end.
